Pearl Mae Bailey passed away on August 17, 1990. Her legacy and influence on Broadway theater, recorded music, dance, film and almost every form of entertainment continues on.

Bailey was an icon and phenomenal entertainer in an era crowded with entertainers who themselves were iconic.

Few people have ever been able to command a stage or make a memorable record or steal a scene in a film like Pearl Bailey. The list of people who continue to entertain and find new fans after their passing is even fewer.

Dr. Michael Wilson has done an amazing job of curating The Pearl Bailey Showcase at The African American Museum Of Philadelphia.

Dr. Wilson has amassed a collection that captures the greatness of Bailey the entertainer with a collection of musical albums, 45's and 78 recordings as well as a gold record from Bailey's career.

The collection of pictures and information is in a word–joyful.

The showcase also includes many personal items that were owned by Bailey including letters from friends and other iconic people of her era.

This is an exhibition you may want to visit The African American Museum to see again and again through out the summer.
