Shaunta Hull Smith

Shaunta Hull Smith was born to Sophie McRae Hull Williams and Warren Jones on June 29th, 1966, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She was a lifelong resident of Atlantic City, with the exception of 8 years spent living in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Shaunta transitioned from this earthly plane on February 21, 2025.

Shaunta attended Atlantic City and Lancaster Public Schools. She graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1984. After graduation, she was employed as a secretary for Service Master at the high school. Thereafter, she was employed as a cashier for Trump Castle. Shaunta retired from working early, due to a long-term disability, however she volunteered in the community in many capacities. She also diligently assisted many senior citizens in Atlantic City in meaningful ways.

Shaunta was a loving, free spirit who always brought joy and exuberance into any room she entered. She was the life of any party, and offered a constant word of wisdom, love, encouragement, and reassurance to anyone who crossed her path.

Shaunta was a beautiful vocalist and was highly musical. She was often a featured vocalist at her church, Seashore Seventh-day Adventist Church and at religious gatherings. She was in the Atlantic High School Show Choir and Chorale. She was the lead singer of Sounds of Joy and other ensembles in Atlantic City, NJ. She also sang backing vocals on a published album.

Shaunta was a great cook and a great baker. She was known for her fashion and her style. She prided herself on looking amazing in the sharp outfits that her husband would often gift her.

She married the love of her life, Dwight Smith in 2003. The two shared a deep and abiding love. They were great friends and truly displayed marital oneness. She leaves him to mourn with her two step-sons, Briheem Whiting and Isaiah Crews.

Shaunta was predeceased by her brother and sister, Edward Hull and Wanda White. Her father Warren Jones also transitioned. In addition to her husband and step-children, she is survived by her Mother, Sophie Willams, her brothers Russell McRae, Sheldon Hull (Rhonda), Corey White, Sisters, D.Monique Couch (Calvin), Darlene Shelton, Brooke Brimm (Craig). A God-brother Jeff Harley (Lisa).

Shaunta was well-loved by her in-laws. She is survived by her mother-in-law, Mary Hutchinson, her sister-in-laws, Mildred Hutchinson, Sylvia Muhammhad, her brother in laws, Johnathan Smith, Robert Rowell, Craig Rowell, Henry Hutchinson, and Richard Hutchinson.

Shaunta was a loving aunt. She leaves to mourn nieces, Shakeema Scott, Aja Brimm, Masai Brimm, Ashanti McRae, nephews, Russell McRae, jr., Zachariah McRae, Sage Brimm, and Ian Hull. She also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Shaunta will be sorely missed. Her light in our lives will always shine bright, and won’t be soon forgotten. We are thankful to have walked alongside her in her life’s journey. We will take everything she has given us and pay it forward to make this world a better place, just as she did.
