Philadelphia's Legends Of Hip Hop Take The Stage At Wilson's

HI–NELLA - It was a cold and snowy December evening, but people who love the legacy of Hip-Hop from the great city of Philadelphia came out to celebrate.

On Friday December 2o, 2024, DJ Cash Money brought a concert/party to Wilson's to celebrate the Hip-hop music that came out of the Philadelphia area in the 1980's.

During the 1980's, most of the Hip-Hop music that charted came from New York City and Philadelphia. Music and artists from other regions were just starting to migrate. During the early to mid 80's, Luke and Miami bass was just being heard for the first time in the north east. Eazy E and the members of NWA were still listening to and being influenced by Philadelphia MC, Schoolly D.

The Philly Hip-Hop Legends Show brought in fans from Philly, New York, South Jersey and Delaware.

The line-up included DJ Cash Money and Marvelous -an award winning DJ and MC. Also performing was EST from the group 3Times Dope. Est, besides being the voice of 3 Times Dope, has penned hit songs for Destiny's Child, Beyonce and other R&B and Pop music stars. Headlining the show was Schooly D, who was one of the first "gangster rappers" well before the term "gangster rap" was coined.

Though it started to snow about an hour before the doors opened, the weather did not chill the spirits of the crowd determined to enjoy the show. Hosts, Mimi Brown and Lioness kept the crowd engaged between acts. DJ Cash Money amazed the crowd and kept them dancing with his skill in manipulating sounds on the turn tables.

The part of the event that was perhaps most moving was when fans brought their album covers to the artists like EST and DJ Cash Money to be signed. The Philly Hip Hop Legends Show proved that after 40-plus years Philly Hip-Hop still moves the crowd.
