ATLANTIC CITY – The Philadelphia 76ers recently recognized the City of Atlantic City’s Recreation Division at center court during Tuesday night’s game at the Wells Fargo Center, highlighting the division’s dedication to youth engagement and community enrichment.

For years, Atlantic City Recreation has provided local children with unforgettable experiences, including trips to more than a dozen 76ers games—most recently, a matchup against the Dallas Mavericks. In appreciation of these efforts, the 76ers organization extended a special honor to the division.

Representing Atlantic City Recreation at the ceremony were Director Mike Griffin, Assistant Director Eric Rembert, City of Atlantic City Health and Human Services Director Jarrod Barnes, and 4th Ward Councilman George “Animal” Crouch.

“Atlantic City Recreation strives to create unique recreational opportunities for our youth—turning experiences into lifelong memories,” said Griffin. “We don’t do this for recognition, but we’re incredibly grateful that an organization like the 76ers took the time to acknowledge our hard work and commitment to the community.”

Mayor Marty Small, Sr. reflected on the significance of the recognition, attributing it to his administration’s dedication to revitalizing the Recreation Division.

“When I set out to rebuild our Recreation Division, moments like this motivated me,” said Small. “It’s about providing opportunities that our youth might not otherwise have. I am beyond proud of the division’s achievements, and it’s rewarding to see a world-class organization like the 76ers recognize our efforts to strengthen Atlantic City.”

Adding to the excitement, 20 players from the Atlantic City Vikings high school boys’ and girls’ basketball teams were invited to the game, where they had the chance to meet Mavericks forward Naji Marshall, an Atlantic City native. The night also included individual honors for two Recreation employees: Sakiyah Quick, named 2024 Recreation Full-Time Staff Member of the Year, and Efrain Morales, recognized as the 2024 Recreation Part-Time Staff Member of the Year.

Atlantic City Recreation continues to foster youth development through various programs, including the Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA, in partnership with the 76ers.
