Ras Baraka started off at The Back Bay Ale House, a place many locals support for food, drink and community year round. The Back Bay Ale House is more of a visitors hub during the summer.
At Bay Bay, Baraka discussed how he is making Newark, New Jersey's largest city, work. Sharing data on improvements in crime, education, health and economics.
The second stop for Baraka was The Claridge. Here Baraka met with the larger community. Many in attendance were well seasoned voters. The event was sponsored my former Atlantic City Mayor Lorenzo Langford and his wife Nynell.
This gathering brought together several current and former elected officials to publicly endorse Baraka.
Here his message included economics and his vision for a better Atlantic City and New Jersey. Baraka also excited the crowd when he explained why the current system of governance doesn't appeal to some and why his record of accomplishments in Newark is key. The Baraka message is that now is NOT the time for democrats to embrace moderate policy. Baraka instead believes that it is time to double-down progressive Democratic ideas. Baraka also made it know that he currently supports small business as a vital part of New Jersey and how he plans to invest in small business and not so much larger corporate businesses. Baraka explained that taxes would go to helping small business owners to stay open and to grow.
The evening wrapped at a small coffee klatch in the inlet section of Atlantic City. Here, a local supporter welcomed family and personal friends to hear Mayor Baraka's message and to meet him in a relaxed and intimate environment.
He discussed all the usual things you would expect a candidate to discuss. However, Baraka also included a touching memory of his father Amiri Baraka. Ras Amiri Baraka, while hospitalized during his Ras's first campaign to become the mayor of Newark, still asked people to vote for his son. Some in the room knew both Ras and his parents. These moments with Ras speaking from his heart revealed a bit about why he, as a mayor, invests in people.
At each stop Baraka discussed the need to build back the cities, protect democratic ideas and establish new ideas here in New Jersey.
We will bring you more from Baraka's visit to AC, as well as more from his campaign. We will also have coverage of other candidates running for office for June 10th and November 4th.
