Lisa Asare, President and CEO of The Maternal and Infant Health Innovation Authority of NJ, talked at length about factors that lead to Black women in New Jersey being seven times more likely to die in child birth.

ATLANTIC CITY - On Monday, March 10, 2025, the Atlantic City Chapter of the NAACP held their monthly meeting at Atlantic Cape Community College's Worthington Campus in Atlantic City.

Along with their regular discussion on national and local NAACP business, the focus was health.


Christian Ragland, Assistant Vice President of DEI for AtlantiCare, spoke about health caps and available screenings for men in Atlantic City.

Lisa Asare, President and CEO of The Maternal and Infant Health Innovation Authority of NJ, also focused on health. During her talk she revealed that the life expectancy of an Atlantic City resident can be as much as 12 years lower as a resident of the outher shore areas. She also talked at length about the factors that lead to Black women in NJ being seven times more likely to die in child birth or post child birth (within that year) than her white counterparts.

Asare, discussed the efforts to close those caps in mortality and available services and preventions. Asare also discussed specific roles government and community can play. She also shared information on becoming certified to help a mother pre-and-post birth.
