Take the Plunge for Special Olympics in Wildwood
The Wildwoods will welcome hundreds of plungers to get "freezin for a reason" during the annual Wildwoods Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics, taking place at the Wildwoods Convention Center and on the Wildwood beach on Saturday, Jan. 13. The Polar Bear Plunge is an unique opportunity for individuals, organizations, and businesses to support Special Olympics New Jersey athletes by jumping into the frigid Atlantic waters. Plunge participants help raise money for the more than 21,000 Special Olympics athletes that train and compete year-round, throughout New Jersey. Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the plunge takes place at 1 p.m., followed by a hot catered lunch for all plungers inside the warm Convention Center. Celebrate the MLK Holiday with a march from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School Complex to the Civil Rights Garden on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. and Pacific Avenue. The march takes place at 11 a.m. Then heads to St. James A.M.E. Church on New York Avenue to celebrate the life of the Civil Rights and Human Rights Activist.
Celebrate the MLK Holiday with a Youth Read Aloud Event at L'Overture Books in Pleasantville
Bring your primary school-age student (grades 3-6) into L’Ouverture Books Beans
& Gifts to recite or read aloud from a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. speech of their choosing. Participants may come between 12:00-4:30 p.m. on either day. Each student will receive a $12.00 (Wawa) gift card and literature prize for their participation.
