Die-Hard Thanksgiving Football Fans Brave Steady Rain to Support Atlantic City Vs. Holy Spirit Game
This year on Thanksgiving the shore area got some much needed rain, however the weather may have scared the causal fans from coming out. Those fans from ACHS and Holy Spirit that did brave the rain were all smiles.
ABSECON - On Thursday, November 28, 2024, the 96th, Thanksgiving meeting between Atlantic City High School and Holy Spirit's Football Programs took place at "Ed Byrne's Stadium" on the campus of Holy Spirit.

The game itself was not epic as Holy Spirit won a 37 -8 victory. Historically, the record or talent of the football programs don't matter to those who come out on Thanksgiving. Atlantic City High School alums and supporters love their football and all of their sports teams...however...no matter the record...ACHS Vikings want to beat The Holy Spirit Spartans on Thanksgiving.
The Spartans continued their run of 7 straight "Turkey Day Game" wins and Vikings had to settle for turkey and "fixins" at home after the game.
The Thanksgiving Rivalry between ACHS and "Spirit", affectionally referred to as "The Turkey Day Game" is not just about Football. Over the years people have come to trash talk each others school in an oddly friendly manner, the game serves as a home coming for former Vikings and Spartans (old and young) since many return home to celebrate Thanksgiving.
This year the field seemed quieter and less electric for these reasons:
The Rain
The award winning ACHS Marching Band was not at the game.
Many people came over the years to support the band and enjoy a great show.
The Marching Vikings, not on the field did not sit right.
No ACHS cheer leaders.
Lastly, this was the first time in decades that ACHS Vikings super sports fan, John Bucci and former Athletic Director Frank Campo were not in attendance.
Bucci was a fan that was favored and maybe as well known as many of the athletes who played ACHS football and basketball. Sadly, Mr. Bucci passed away this year and his presence was missed. Campo also died this year.
