The African American Museum Of Philadelphia's Exhibition Celebrates Big Chief Demond Melancon, Black Masking a Unique Art Form Woven into New Orleans Culture

As Any Means Are Necessary - Demond Melancon (b. 1978) works solely with a needle and thread to sew glass beads onto canvas. He began this practice in 1992 when he first became part of a more than 200-year-old culture known as the Black Masking Culture of New Orleans.

Here Big Chief, Demond Melancon leads a tour of his exhibition during the opening reception. All of his pieces are hand sewn, from wall displays to full Black Masking regalia.

PHILADELPHIA - Atlantic City Focus took a tour of As Any Means Are Necessary lead by Demond Melancon. Afterward he took a moment to discuss The First Indian Nation and Black Masking Culture of New Orleans.

As Any Means Are Necessary is an enlightening and colorful exhibit that brings an important cultural experience, unique to New Orleans, to the east coast.
