ATLANTIC CITY - On Saturday, March 8, 2025, the Atlantic City Boardwalk was awash in shades of green as the city celebrated its 37th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. As one of Atlantic City's longest-running traditions, the parade drew participants and spectators from near and far, eager to partake in the festivities that honor Irish heritage and culture.

A Tradition of Celebration

St. Patrick's Day, observed annually on March 17, commemorates St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Born in Britain in the late fourth century, Patrick was kidnapped at the age of 16 and brought to Ireland as a slave. After six years, he escaped but later returned to Ireland as a missionary, playing a pivotal role in converting the Irish to Christianity. The day has evolved from a solemn religious observance into a global celebration of Irish culture, marked by parades, music, and communal gatherings.

Atlantic City's Homage to Irish Heritage

The Atlantic City St. Patrick's Day Parade began at 1:00 PM along the world-famous Boardwalk, featuring a vibrant array of participants, including string bands, pipers, local performers, charitable organizations, and businesses. This year's Grand Marshal was Deputy Chief Bridget Pierce of the Atlantic City Police Department, honored for her dedication to the community.

"I grew up going to every St. Patrick's Day parade and my sisters and I were a part of the very first one," said Pierce. They carried the banner for McGuire's Pittsburgh Bar, Atlantic City. "I feel like I've come full circle and it's amazing to be recognized and honored by the committee."

Mayor Marty Small, Sr. expressed enthusiasm about the parade's impact, stating, "We want people to come from near and far. It's going to be a true celebration. We're going to make a major impact on the businesses here." The event not only showcases Irish culture but also stimulates local commerce, benefiting bars, restaurants, casinos, and various enterprises in the area. St. Patrick's Day Parade

Ensuring Safety and Enjoyment

To maintain a safe environment, the Atlantic City Police Department deployed both uniformed and plain-clothes officers throughout the parade route. They emphasized that underage drinking laws would be strictly enforced. Additionally, traffic detours and delays were implemented between 1:30 PM and 5:00 PM to facilitate the smooth flow of paradegoers exiting the Boardwalk.

A Community United in Celebration

The parade exemplifies Atlantic City's commitment to fostering unity and cultural appreciation. By bringing together diverse groups across ethnicities, religions, and ages, the event creates a peaceful and enjoyable atmosphere for all attendees. As the city continues to uphold this cherished tradition, residents and visitors alike look forward to many more years of celebrating St. Patrick's Day along the historic Boardwalk.
