Atlantic City Focus Brings Together Teachers, Students and Community Members To Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

ATLANTIC CITY - On Sunday January 26, 2025, Atlantic City Focus was the main sponsor of Time For Peace: A Celebration Of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The celebration took place at The African American Heritage Museum Of Southern New Jersey at The Noyes Arts Garage of Stockton University.

Curated by our Arts and Entertainment Editor, Raymond Tyler, Time for Peace included monologue, original poetry, classical poetry, music and art.

Tyler brought together a diverse group of voices including teachers from the area, students from Atlantic City High School (Marvin Burroughs, Jr.) and The Atlantic County Institute Of Technology (Lilia Wilson.) Also sharing poetry was Michael Atkins, the Executive Director of The Atlantic City Arts Foundation and Melissa McGeary, the director of The Atlantic City Free Public Library.

Published poets and people sharing their poetry for the first time were also featured.

Opening the show was recording artist, April Williams, followed by a prayer by Pastor Collins A. Days, from Second Baptist Church.

Filling out the celebration was visual artists Lamar Roberts discussing Dr. King and Colin A. Kaepernick.

We also heard from Verneen Cream about her painting Just Breathe and also how her Butterfly Project is helping families across America.

Time For Peace Was Hosted By Kalimba Chambers, Lamar Roberts and Lynn Harris.

Our next scheduled arts event will be on March 16, 2025, at Cape May Stage also curated by Raymond Tyler. GOD WILLING is a celebration of The Harlem Renaissance. Stay tuned we just may schedule a Black History Event and on February 10, 2025 is the premiere of The Light: The Morning Show Edition produced and hosted by Raymond Tyler.
