ATLANTIC CITY – Mayor Marty Small announced scholarship opportunities for Atlantic City students and residents during the annual Metropolitan Business and Citizen Association Spring Scholarship Luncheon at Resorts Casino Hotel Atlantic City in 2023.

On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, in a ceremony held at Atlantic City High School, the mayor announced the recipients of the second installment of his ambitious $3 million scholarship program. “This scholarship program offers our young people a vital chance to further their education," said Small. "For some, this financial support could determine whether they continue their studies or not."

This year, 100 scholarships, each valued at $10,000, were awarded to deserving students, mirroring the initiative's first year. The funding, part of the American Rescue Plan aimed at addressing educational disparities, will provide $1 million annually over three years to support the academic aspirations of Atlantic City residents.

The scholarships for this year were allocated as follows:

  • 45 Scholarships: For current seniors graduating from Atlantic City High School who will attend college this fall.
  • 45 Scholarships: For Atlantic City High School alumni who are currently college sophomores, juniors, or seniors.
  • 9 Scholarships: For Atlantic City High School alumni pursuing Master’s or Doctorate degrees.
  • 1 Scholarship (split into 10 parts): In partnership with the nonprofit Battle by the Bay, distributing $1,000 each to Atlantic City High School students.

Initially, some scholarships were earmarked for graduates planning to attend trade schools, but with no applicants in this category, those funds were redistributed to other groups.

Mayor Small emphasized the critical role these scholarships play in shaping future leaders. "I hope these recipients will remember their roots and eventually return to Atlantic City to give back to their community. We have numerous opportunities for our youth, and we encourage our scholarship winners to make the most of them,” Small said.

A 14-member committee reviewed applications and essays to select the scholarship winners, with Mayor Small abstaining from the process. Students who previously applied and remained eligible were encouraged to reapply. The full list of scholarship recipients will be released once notified.

This scholarship initiative highlights Mayor Small’s dedication to investing in the educational futures of Atlantic City’s youth, aiming to cultivate a generation of leaders committed to making a positive impact in their community.
