ATLANTIC CITY - I love live competitive sporting events...so while I have not seen an NBA game on TV in a while or attended a live NBA in more than 10 years...I am a regular at the Atlantic City High School Boys and Girls Basketball home games.

With less than a week until Christmas, the Atlantic City High School Vikings had their home opener for the 2024-2025 season. As a totally biased fan of ACHS Basketball, my Vikings did not disappoint. On December 19, 2024, as both the junior varsity and varsity boys teams made quick work of the Egg Harbor Township Eagles.

Here are 5 of about 25 Cool Things I enjoyed at the home opener.

  1. Former ACHS Stars coming to support Vikings Basketball 2024.
  1. New Score Board.
The gym this year is outfitted with 4 new digital scoreboards.
Two of the scoreboards show how much The Vikings are winning by and on the other we could actually watch other high school games in real time.
  1. Spy Vs Spy
I met some kids from ACIT who decided to drop by after their game.
I'm sure they were taking notes of what both ACHS and E.H.T like to do on offense and defense. Nice kids though.
  1. Fan Favorites and Regulars
What wasn't cool was not seeing John Bucci in the stands. John was a ACHS alum that endeared himself to fans, coaches and players. His death this year still saddens us but does not damped our school spirit.
By the time the varsity game started, many of the other regular fans were in the stands.
Including William "Speedy" Marsh (former Mayor of Atlantic City.)
  1. Winning Ball
Win or Lose....both the JV and Varsity teams looked good and played very solid basketball. The Vikings of 2024-2025 are ready to compete.
